  • The moral vegetarian

OK... I understand and respect the environmental and health justifications surrounding the typical vegetarian/vegan "lifestyle". However, I SINCERELY do not understand how we (as humans) can truly believe that we UNDERSTAND the nature of pain, self-awareness, consciousness and sentience in relation to any organic life. I keep reading about how cruel meat eaters are and how beautiful it is to be a vegetarian or vegan.

How can I KNOW that the plant that I am eating (still fresh with water running through its "living" veins) has NO awareness and does not experience sorrow when torn from its home. Picked, packed, shipped, displayed, bought, sold, refrigerated, cooked, and eaten all while still "alive"… plants had better not suffer if we put them through all that. When did the plant (which displays the same eagerness to live as all other organic "life") volunteer to be eaten by humans?

Some (if not all) of our ancient ancestors regarded plants as conscious beings that could actually help humans distinguish between edible and non-edible species, provide guidance in the art of healing, grant blessings to their children, capture a persons soul, etc....

I would appreciate any information. I became a vegetarian cold turkey 14 months ago. I will admit that while I do try to include as much protein in my diet as possible, I simply do not have the time to prepare the kind of meals that I probably should to compensate for the lack of meat. Well as of a month ago I started noticing my hair shedding and in some cases coming out in clumps. Is there a good chance this is related to my diet and if so what is a good and easy to prepare source of protein. Thanks

  • connection between low protien and depression

My daughter has been a vegetarian since she was around 13...she started showing signs of depression shortly after that (she is now 26)and still battles with it. I have been reading about the lowering of the seritona (sp?) levels in the brain with the lowering of protien in the diet. Any information or suggestions would be appreciated!

  • Looking for vegetarians to talk to

Hello, I am Katerina and I am Russian. I am a new vegetarian, only searching for information. Unfortunately I have more intuition than information. I've got a small girl who thinks that killing animals for food is immoral and I share her views. I could go without meat ok (anyways I didn't cook it for me before) but I care for her diet too. I would be happy to talk to vegetarians of great experience and get some information at least about books to read (yes, Russian would be great :)).
    Best regards,
    Katerina

I work at a shreaded wheat cereal plant and made a sicking dicovery. They use (animal gelatin) in the frosted shreaded wheat. This sickens me to think we have people trying to be a true vegetarian and they are sliding this over on us.

One thing that is true in life.
    Life eats Life.
You can not have life without it.
    This is a natural fact.
If it was natural to just eat GREEN vegitarian foods then you would not need any vitamins sicne some veggies lack in certain nutrition benefits.
But I say if you want to just eat green for 6 months then this is a very healthy thing but to never go back to meat is a bad health choice. Instead buy healthy meat such at TRADER JOES food markets that are springin up all around the USA.

    Happy Helthy Eating!

  • Burger King BK VEGGIE Burger

On PITA’s site at http://www.peta.org/feat/bkveg/index.html they discuss the new Burger King BK VEGGIE Burger. On other portion of the PETA web site the site they tout this as a vegetarian product (in banner adds). However, is this “flame broiled” product not cooked in the same broiling machine as the meat based burgers and are not the same tools used to handle the burgers. Does this not add a animal based component to the BK VEGGIE Burger that a vegetarian should avoid?
